Chapter One: Alive But Dead

It was a dark night, my flippers splashed violently in the water. I tried to get to the surface. The beast was on my tail, well I didn’t really have a tail that was just a metaphor, anyway let's cut to the chase. I was about to be gobbled up by the jaws of a tiger shark. I knew this was my end because I could see the the light in the distance, oh no that was just the lighthouse, wait, a lighthouse that must mean their is  land, yahoo! I can now get away from my terrible “friend” here. No it is not you Bob.

I finally reached land. I could feel the rough sand between my toes as I took off my flippers. I was sweating so hard trying to get away from the shark, well of course it was hard to tell because I just came out of the water. I lay down to catch my breath, I was in so much pain, my muscles were aching It was so cold. The ground started to shake beneath me. The tide started going out faster than a cheater could run I knew what this meant. I. had. to. Run.

The Nationals

Today room 22 presented assembly. so you might know what I am going to talking about. In December the team Tidy Kiwi are going fly down to Wellington for the nationals to present their idea to four judges and a big audience. If they win the nationals the that team will get a big reward for them selves and our school so lest cheer them on and hope they win.

Tahi Rua Toru Tech Challenge

Room 22 is doing a challenge called Tahi Rua Toru Tech. We have been split up into seven groups and we had to come up with a idea of an app or website to help our community. My Group is me, Aidan and Luella, we all got our own roll in this challenge I am the leader Aidan is the secretary and Luella is the seeker. Our idea for the challenge is to make a website about all the endangered NZ sea animals and how we could help these endangered sea creatures.

Title: The Hobbit

Author: J.R.R Tolkien

Text Type: Fiction

Synopsis:

This book is about a hobbit who doesn't have a normal life. This hobbits name is Bilbo Baggins. Bilbo has an unexpected quest waiting for him that Gandalf the wizard gave him. The quest is for him to reclaim a powerful gem from the dragon Smug but his quest doesn't go as planned.

I think the author chose this title is because the story's main character is a hobbit or the story is about a hobbit's life.

My favorite character:

My favorite character is Smug because he is one of my favorite animals, a dragon also I love his personality because he's always so funny and he is also a sneaky trickster for example when he tried to trick Bilbo from coming out of his hiding spot when Bilbo was in his lair

An interesting relationship in the text:

An interesting relationship in the text is Bilbo and Gandalf because at first they were never friends because Bilbo was not a very social and Gandalf wasn’t really his type.   but when you get to the middle of the book they start working together by trusting each other and it turned into an amazing relationship.

Explains one of the themes or big ideas in the text:

One of the big relationships in the text is Bilbo and Gandalf, I think this because they had nothing in common at the start of the story, but in there adventures they have together they start to realize they have a few things in common like they both want to live a happy life and help others.

Examples of connections I’ve made in the text

The character Gandalf reminds me of Dumbledore from harry potter because they are both mysterious and magical. The dwarfs remind me of the dwarfs in snow white because there is a grumpy and a sleepy dwarf in the hobbit.

Lost at Sea

My wings spread across the moonlit night sky as I flew over the wild waves in search of something to feed on. I flew for hours over the endless sea I could hear my stomach growling at me because there was no food . As I was turning around to fly back to my cave I couldn’t see my island there was nothing there except for the moon and horizon.

I was starting to get weaker by the second I had to find a place to rest and regain my strength so I could get back home. Yes finally I found an island it wasn’t a big one but it was just the right size, as I flew closer I notest a little hole on the island but I didn’t worry about it, it wasn’t even near big enough for me to fall into. I landed on the island it was a bit soft but I didn’t care so I lay down and fell asleep.

I woke up to a terrible feeling, my face was drenched in water I wondered how I got my face so wet so I looked down at the little hole in the unusual island, suddenly a geyser of water hit my face just then I realized I was on a whale! Yes finally some food. I bit into the whale but I did no damage “what ? um this shouldn’t be happening”, just at that moment another geyser blew into my face you should have seen my expression  it was hilarious.

Stranded

Hi I am Emma and today I going to... SAIL AROUND THE WORLD OMG I CAN’T KEEP MYSELF QUIET FOR ONE MINUTE, AH SO EXCITING! ,OK Emma calm down I said to myself  BUT I CAN’T! my head was swirling with excitement. I was starting to get a headache “I have to SCREAM but I can’t no I can no I can’t”. I could hear the little angel and devil on my shoulder arguing away I think that's how I got my headache. I was so busy screaming in my room I forgot to pack I looked at the time "ah I only have 15 minutes to pack, I guess I should start packing."

twenty-three minutes later mum yelled from downstairs “we are going to run late if you don’t hurry up” “nearly done mum just one more thing; done I coming”

“Good now hop in the car”.  

It took us three whole hours to get to the yacht  me, mum, dad and my friend Grace were going on a 3 year sail around the world together we unpacked all our luggage onto the boat and then we backed out of the bay and we were ready to explore just then I realized. We don't have school for three years, just then mum came in with an evil grin on her face. I could tell what the face meant, all of a sudden out of the blue mum yelled “ I will be your teacher!” I can tell this is going to go bad  “Bah” what was that me and mum said confused Grace came down stairs with a goat I said get that thing out of my cabin but mum didn't hear a thing I said she was so busy saying "so cute!" (shaking my head left to right) I felt this day would be very bad “chew chew” ah this is why I would never have a pet goat it eats everything even if it is not edible. "It’s not mine" said Grace innocently "I found it on the side path." Fourteen hours later screech.

"Whoa what was that dad, is everything alright?" "I think we have hit something." "What you're kidding" "nope." Suddenly Grace starts yodeling " yodel yodel yodel yodel he ho.
